Re: TED Talks

Yes, a thousand times yes. TED talks are wonderful - I incorporate them into lectures as best I can, and before they went so 'multimedia' I used to enjoy putting them on a CD and listening to them in the car on long journeys. The recent ones seem to be less fascinating (probably because all the trul...

Re: Ironman Mode

That's an interesting about a different port. I don't think we could really do much without having to instance the mud though in terms of minimising or eliminating game impact of the iron mode players.

Still, certainly something to think about

Re: Code Comments

That's certainly an ideal case, but in my experience all comments really do in the end is tell you whyv code that doesn't work that way any more worked the way it did. Comment discipline is very low, with myself especially, and it tends to be the case I find that code changes and comments don't. Tha...

Ironman Mode

Would there be any appetite for an ironman mode? It would be called something like 'no immunity mode'. With this, I'm thinking the following: * You have one life, and if you die you die for reals. Characters can't come back. * All XP rewards are multiplied by 10 * All faction rep rewards are multipl...

Re: Recommended TV shows

[*] Screenwipe by Charlier Brooker. It's a sort of critique of all things TV. Here's the first I heard about Deadwood, from Screenwipe. He's also done Gameswipe and Newswipe which are pretty good. Also by Charlie Brooker - Black Mirror . It's a sort of Tales of the Unexpected, but technologically b...

Re: Accessibility

One thing that would be quite helpful: could you modify the theme you're using for PHPBB so that the subject of each post in the topic is marked as a heading (I'd recommend h4)? This makes it much easier to skip to the next post with a screen reader. That sounds like a good idea, but I've also been...

Re: Zombie Action Plan

I've never really thought of survival in connection with zombies, as I'm not a zombie fan, and so that's not the sort of thing that I worry about. I'm only relatively recently a zombie fan, and it was because of the film 28 Days Later. Not because it's a great film or anything, although I did enjoy...

Zombie Action Plan

Here's the scenario. The dead rise, the plague spread by biting. The zombies are slow, but can only be taken down by head shots - anything else just slows them down. You have some advanced notice of the infection - there's reports of rioting on the TV but you're one of maybe 1% of the population who...

Re: Just who the hell do you think you are?

In real life, my name is Michael and I'm a university lecturer working on accessibility, video games, and accessibility in video games. You can read a bit about that at http://drakkos.co.uk/~drakkos/index.html if you're interested . My characters are Drakkos and Draconius (both creators), and my pla...

Accessibility

I have created an accessibility module that is embedded into every player. The key thing this lets me do really it's to allow for a screenreader command that can save and restore particular game options as a handy unit. Leaving aside the obvious stuff like in game maps brief look and so on, what wou...

Re: Elder Scrolls Online

Oh no

I won't be playing it I'm afraid. I haven't enjoyed any of the Elder Scrolls games, and SWTOR was my last attempt at liking an MMO. That is of course unless the Fallout MMO ever happens.

Depression Quest

I'd advise staying away if you have depressive tendencies that aren't being managed, but this is a fascinating piece of IF: http://www.beesgo.biz/dq/DQfinal.html

Re: Epitaph Christmas Songs

(To the tune of 'Merry Christmas Everybody' by Slade) Are you checking out the thickness of the walls? It's the time to check the traps set in the halls. Did you check the doors and windows? Are you sure they're gonna hold? Are there blankets there to keep you from the cold? So here it is, SCARY CHR...

Re: Drakkos' Epic Album Recommendations

To this I am going to add Amanda Palmer's 'Theatre is Evil' which is all kinds of awesome. And, the first volume of the Due South soundtrack because having watched the show again recently I was vividly struck by just how amazing the music is.

Re: Recommended TV shows

Man, Breaking Bad isn't on this list. That's crazy. I guess I hadn't watched any of it by then.

Adding Breaking Bad about ten times to this. It has overtaken 'The Wire' as my own personal 'best show ever', and that's no mean feat. It may even have knocked Carnivale out of the top three! :o

To the tune of Merry Christmas: Rat flesh roasting on an open fire. Frostbite gnawing at your toes. Re: Epitaph Christmas Songs

To the tune of Winter Wonderland Zombies moan, are you listening? In the street, the gore is glistening. We're hiding tonight, Without any light, Cowering in a winter zombieland, Gone away is the old world, Here to stay, is a new world. In these streets full of death, We cherish each breath. Survivi...
